KM Group is accepting nominations for
charities which will be supported by its newspapers, websites
and kmfm radio stations throughout 2010.
Editors in each of the eight market areas
covered by the multimedia company will be choosing a
Charity of the Year to support with fund-raising events and
publicity.
Nominations have so far been received for
Pilgrim’s Hospice, Kent Air Ambulance Trust, Kent Cancer Trust,
Help for Heroes, Find a Voice, East Kent Mencap, Hospice in the
Weald, The Seeing Dogs Alliance, Samaritans and Thanet Disabled
Riding Centre amongst many others.
Successful applicants will be informed in
November. The charity of the year period runs from the first week
of January 2010. The KM Charity Team aims to stage one or more
fund-raising event to support the selected causes.
Charities seeking support must have projects
within the circulation area of KM Group newspapers.
As a community media company, KM Group has
always supported local causes. In partnership with the
Kent and Medway Charity Team,
KM Group provided support to the community to the value of
£2.6m during 2008.
KM Group will also continue its support for
Marie Curie Cancer Care into 2010. In June, KM Group appealed
for 35 volunteers to trek Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the highest
freestanding mountains in the world, to raise funds to employ more
Marie Curie nurses in Kent.
Not only were 35 volunteers found for that
trip but two more trips have also been fully booked. Listeners are
now being sought to fill a third plane, departing September 24,
2010.
KM Group’s kmfm will be hosting an on air
charity auction on Friday 30th October to further support this
cause. kmfm is currently seeking auction donations and is
seeking local businesses keen to be involved in this community
initiative.
In return for support KM Group will give the
business a mention on the day and provide a website link through
www.kmfm.co.uk.
