Gillingham eye Bishop's Stortford's Charlie Sheringham, son of former Manchester United and England striker Teddy

Gillingham boss Mark Stimson has confirmed his interest in Bishop’s Stortford striker Charlie Sheringham.

The 21-year-old, the son of former England and Manchester United forward Teddy, has been in the non-league scene since being released by Crystal Palace two years ago.

Stimson had been hoping to bring Sheringham, pictured, in on trial but the recent bad weather has put paid to those plans for now.

"I’ve seen Charlie play a lot and he is a good player at that level," said Stimson. "There was a possibility he was going to come here and do some training but with the games being postponed and the facilities not being available, it didn’t materialise.

"Whether that will happen in the next couple of months, who knows?

"Whether he will suit this division yet I’m not sure but we are interested in him."

Sheringham has scored 17 goals in 23 Blue Square South appearances this season after moving to Woodside Park in the summer for £6,500 from Welling, where he scored 28 goals and also picked up the player-of-the-year award.

    HIGH RISK

i think Gillingham would be taking high risk in taking another low league player whether he is Terry Sheringham son or otherwise as we got few already ! who are not all at that so why should take another risk on a names sake !

    Decent Risk

Charlie has scored 40 goals in a season and a half looks like being top scprer 2 seasons running.

I am sure Gills could take a risk for 50 or 60k?

    Black'n'Blue Gills fans

How about running a poll in Kent Online to see what colour kit Gills fans would like to see their team wearing next season?
