Traffic jams after rush-hour crash on M2
A crash
involving three vehicles on the M2 caused rush-hour
chaos this morning.
It happened on the London-bound carriageway between
junction 6, the A251 for Faversham, and junction 5 for the A249
just before 5am.
At the height of rush hour traffic was backed up past
junction 7 at Brenley Corner.
All lanes were re-opened at about 7.30am. No one was seriously
injured.
One driver stuck in the queue said: "The traffic was stationary
for long periods. Heavy sleet was falling and some sarted to settle
near the central reservation.
"It took me 40 minutes to get from Brenley Corner to the
Faversham junction. which is only about a mile and a half."
Elsewhere, a jack-knifed lorry led to the closure of the
A252 Charing Hill (see picture below).
Meanwhile, another crash closed the A299 Thanet Way for
over an hour.
A Peugeot 206 struck the central reservation on the London-bound
stretch at St Nicholas at Wade at around 7.30am.

Renault Twingo then collided with the Peugeot.
Female drivers in both vehicles were treated at the scene by
ambulance crews for minor injuries.
The crash caused long tailbacks and at around 9am a police
spokesman said it was still advisable to avoid the area.
There were also reports of another accident causing problems on
the coast-bound M2 between junctions 5 and 6 after a car went up
the embankment.
According to the police, a broken down vehicle was blocking the
outside lane, while a car ended up sideways on the hard shoulder
partly blocking the inside lane nearby.
The police spokesman added that they had also received reports
of debris falling from a van's roof.
And the weather on the M20 between junctions 9 and 10 are also
poor, with snow causing slushy driving conditions.
