Woman hurt in suspected M20 bridge jump

Police are investigating reports that a woman in her twenties fell from a motorway bridge over the M20.

The incident happened on Monday evening, during the rush hour.

At around 5.15pm, drivers ground to a halt after seeing the blonde woman lying in the hard shoulder of the London-bound carriageway, near junction 4.

It is believed the woman had fallen from the Lunsford Lane bridge over the motorway.

The woman suffered serious injuries described by ambulance crews as  life-threatening.

She was taken by ambulance to a hospital in London. Her condition on Tuesday morning was reported as critical but stable.

The incident caused significant congestion with tailbacks extending to junction 6 at one point.

The road was fully re-opened at around 6:55pm.

I saw this young girl fall, she wasnt lying in the hard shoulder it was in the inside lane of the M20, if she had fallen a second earlier she would have landed on my car, i give full praise to the drivers behind who managed to swerve and avoid her.Several people stopped including me. Thanks for everyone who helped. my thoughts go out to her family. If anyone know how she can you please post it on here. thanks

I was on the bridge seconds after the incident took place, and can only echo the comments above. Well done to all those who helped, especially the guy on the bridge who frantically tired to divert the traffic below from hitting this young lady. And to the “normal” people on the M20 who put themselves in massive danger to help before the emergency services arrived, the risks in coming to her aid on a busy M20 in rush hour were massive – you are all heroes. My thoughts go out to her family and I pray that she makes a full recovery. If anyone has any update on her current situation please post here.

I too managed to stop and assist with giving first aid until the emergency services arrived. I stayed with Sarah whilst the paramedics stabilized her just holding Sarah’s hand and talking to her until she was taken away by the ambulance. I would like to thanks the guys who diverted the traffic away from us in the inside lane and of course to the emergency services who did an outstanding job. If anyone knows which London hospital Sarah was taken to could you post it please.

I was driving in the middle lane when when this young lady fell, and have to say I witnessed some spectacular and skillful driving from those in the left hand lane to avoid her. I wish the young lady well and a full recovery. Well done to all that stopped to help. You really are proper heroes.

i was one of the first people to swerve and avoid this young woman.it was natural instinct to run back and do whatever possible to stop anything from continuing towards her.well done to everyone who went to the aid of the woman including the brave people who directed traffic and the couple of men who communicated with the lady and must of given that little bit of comfort to her.im sure it shocked everyone as much as it did me and yet everyone remained strong for this poor woman.i send my thoughts to the young lady and her family and as said above would like to hear any news if anyone knows her condition.once again well done everyone and just shows how a group of strangers can come together to the aid of someone in need

Most of the comments left on this page, talk about how she 'fell'. I was just wondering if anyone saw her 'fall'? I would have thought that she jumped or was pushed, as it is quite difficult to fall off a bridge which has railings? I wish her all the best and a full recovery.

my daughter saw sara climb the fence and jump from the bridge and yes i hope she will be able to solve her issues and get well speedily. i have to say the effect of seeing this and sara narorowly missing my daughter's car has been devistating for my daughter. should my daughter have hit sara i really dont know how she would have coped with it. it begs the question that should someone want to take their life there must be a better way, as for all of the people making comment here could have been involved in a multiple pile up and killed themselves.. i hope sara gets the support she needs....

Funny how so many of you would have nearly hit her, it seems from this that you were all driving far to close to each others backside and wouldn't have needed this young lady to make you all kill yourselves.

funny how guss points out people were drving to close to eachother, rather than how the lady is that fell of the bridge? or saying a well done to the people who stopped and put their own lives in danger to make sure the lady wasnt injured further there is allways someone that will find something to criticise, well done to evrybody that helped. its still good to know you can rely on complete strangers to selflessly help in certain situations.

Comment for Guss, you really dont have a clue what you are on about. It was rush hour, it was dark, all of us didnt expect for someone to fall out of the sky in front of you on the motorway, all the drivers behind me did an outstanding job, and the only reason this young lady is alive is because of the strangers who stopeed and disrgarded they own lives to save someone they didnt even know.

Im quite disgusted by Guss' comment. I think the main point here is that this young lady put many lives in danger that day and yet despite this numerous people went to her aid. I think everyone involved should be extremely proud of themselves for doing everything they can in a truly terrible and traumatising situation. i think the fact that "many people people nearly hit her" was more to do with the fact SHE WAS LYING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD!!! not that they were themselves driving dangerously. Its a shame that someone always has to try and diminish other peoples amazing actions!

Please all just give a thought to Sarah and her family and the impact this tragic situation has had on all of their lives. And just be grateful that we are not parents having to face this very sad and painful time. Let us all just wish her a speedy recovery.

Message for Guss, do you drive? Clearly not as you were not there on the motorway that evening and you do not have a clue what you are talking about! The incident happened so quickly and the drivers could not help but serve to avoid more accidents on the motorway and not because of driving to close! I do hope the young lady is getting the help she requires. Also this lady was very lucky to have so many caring and helping people to divert the traffic so no more accidents came from this incident which all happened very quicky!
